“The King’s Way”

This excursion will tell you about the founder of the  Great  Principality of Lithuania and the first and the last Belarussian  king Mindovg. You will track down and observe all the places  connected with the life story of this person. Also you  can see 3 old medieval   castles ( Mir, Lubcha, Novogrudok), admire one of the most beautiful lakes- Svityaz, also take place in the dramatized  performance  talking about the key events of Belarussian history of the 13-th century. And finally  the great and  impressive fire-show on the lakeside will crown this unique journey!

                                

Mir is famous for its  castle-fortress,  it’s a monument of the stone-gothic of the 16^th -18^th centuries,  which,  in 1994,  UNESCO decided to put it  to the highest rank world monuments. There are also some houses, churches and  a  cathedral  of those times.

Shchorsy , famous for its  palace complex with a large court-yard  with a park and ponds. There is  Dmitry’s Church (1776).

Lubcha is situated on the bank of the river Neman. This town was founded at the end of the 15^th century and in the 16^th century there was built a castle. Today it’s nearly rebuilt.

Novogrudok, the first capital of the Great  Principality of Lithuania, a powerful outpost of the Middle Aged Belarusian state. It’s one of the oldest cities in our country, the foundation time is referred  to the 10^th century. By the legend Mindovg (1195 - 1263) who was a founder and the first great prince of the Great Principality of Lithuania was crowned and buried here.

You should also visit here Saint-Boris and Gleb Church (1519),  Saint-Nikolaevskij cathedral (1780), originally it was constructed by the monks from the Order of St. Francisco invited by Gedymin;  Farny Cathedral, and in 1799 the cathedral was a place where a famous poet Adam Mitskevich was christened (there is also a memorial to this famous person and the Adam Mitskevich museum in Novogrudok);  and do not miss the catholic church after Saint Michael Archangel (1624).

But the symbol of this place is Novogrudok Castle. This powerful defensive construction  could  stand up to crusaders and Tartar-Mongols sieges, but during the Northern war against Russia (1700-1721) the city was completely ruined and only giant ruins testify their past greatness, while they enliven us today and, thanks to our exclusive programme, they become a place where you may watch the knights tournaments and even take part in fancy-dress theater performances.
